What the customer noticed
This Brinkley fifth wheel was previously diagnosed in Johnson City with a failed GE rooftop air conditioner. The customer needed to leave for a camping trip before the replacement could be completed. After returning, he parked the RV at Medallion Campground beside Bristol Motor Speedway to prepare for the September NASCAR race weekend.

What inspection and testing revealed
The original diagnostic visit found freezing at the evaporator inlet, unusually low compressor amperage and no airflow restriction, indicating a sealed-system failure consistent with low refrigerant charge. Because the original R-410A air conditioner was obsolete, the replacement required both a new rooftop unit and a compatible control box.

What Sunset did or recommended
Sunset Mobile RV Repair removed the failed rooftop air conditioner and installed a GE 13,500-BTU heat-pump air conditioner, model GRHS13XHHW. Keith also replaced the control box with GE part RGRE2CA, completed the electrical and control connections, secured and sealed the rooftop assembly, and reinstalled the interior ceiling components. A special thank-you to the operations team at Bristol Motor Speedway for lending a hand with their forklift to safely lift the new rooftop unit into place.

Where the service call stands
The new air conditioner and heat-pump system operated correctly after installation. Final testing measured approximately 71.4°F return air and 50.0°F supply air—a temperature split of about 21.4°F. The fifth wheel was cooling properly and ready at Medallion Campground ahead of Bristol’s September NASCAR race weekend.
