Customer complaint
What the customer noticed
A customer staying at Rogers Gardens Campground near Bristol Motor Speedway called after a heavily corroded battery cable broke off at one end. The customer believed the cable could be salvaged by replacing the terminal rather than replacing the entire cable.
Diagnostic findings
What inspection and testing revealed
Inspection identified a heavy-duty 4/0 battery jumper cable requiring a replacement lug with a 1/2-inch stud hole. This was not an ordinary replacement battery terminal: the repair needed the correctly sized lug and equipment capable of hydraulically crimping it onto the cable.
Work performed or recommended
What Sunset did or recommended
Removed the damaged battery jumper cable and located a company that had the required lug in stock and the equipment to hydraulically crimp it onto the cable. Took the cable in for repair, returned to the campground, and reinstalled the repaired jumper. Also cleaned corrosion from the battery terminals.
Outcome and next step
Where the service call stands
The battery jumper cable was repaired and reinstalled with the correct replacement lug, and the battery terminals were cleaned. This saved the customer from replacing the entire cable. Service was completed on September 17, 2026, at Rogers Gardens Campground in Bristol, Tennessee.
