Customer complaint

What the customer noticed

An RV traveler staying at Roan Mountain State Park reported two intermittent problems. The freezer in the Dometic refrigerator stayed cold, but the refrigerator compartment repeatedly warmed up and cooled back down. The tow vehicle was also displaying an intermittent Trailer Disconnect warning.

Diagnostic findings

What inspection and testing revealed

Testing showed that the refrigerator thermistor’s resistance readings were outside the manufacturer’s specifications, identifying a faulty thermistor as the cause of the inconsistent refrigerator temperature. Additional testing of the trailer’s seven-way connection traced the Trailer Disconnect warning to a poor electrical connection on the truck side of the connector.

Work performed or recommended

What Sunset did or recommended

Sunset Mobile RV Repair tested the refrigerator’s temperature-control system and diagnosed the failed thermistor. Because the customer was traveling through Northeast Tennessee, the customer planned to order the replacement sensor and have it installed at the next destination. The customer was also advised to have the truck-side seven-way connection repaired.

Outcome and next step

Where the service call stands

Both problems were identified without unnecessary parts replacement. The traveler left Roan Mountain State Park knowing which refrigerator component and tow-vehicle connection required attention.
