What the customer noticed
A customer staying at Earhart Campground near Bristol Motor Speedway for the NASCAR races reported unreliable hot water on the third trip in his new RV. The Truma AquaGo would ignite, run for about five seconds, shut off, and repeat after roughly twenty seconds.
Diagnostic findings
What inspection and testing revealed
Testing found water flow hovering around the heater’s minimum operating threshold. The customer had been checking operation through the Nautilus exterior shower and had switched from the built-in three-stage filtration system to an external inline hose filter, installing winterization caps in the built-in filter housings. We checked the plumbing configuration and exterior shower controls. Restoring the normal filter setup and fully shutting off the exterior shower restored water flow and stopped the short cycling. The symptoms pointed to a water-flow issue rather than a heater that would not ignite.

What Sunset did or recommended
Fully closed the exterior shower, removed the winterization caps, restored the normal filtration configuration, and retested the AquaGo. Also replaced the factory plastic check valve at the hot-water outlet behind the heater with a brass check valve to address a possible additional flow restriction.

With normal water flow restored, the AquaGo stayed running and provided hot water. The repair was completed on September 16, 2026, at Earhart Campground in Bristol, Tennessee, helping the customer get back to enjoying race week.
